Confession... Let me tell you a secret. Promise you wont think ill of me. Promise me youll try to understand. Promise me youll respect me in the morning. Ok, here goes. I read horoscopes everyday! Eek! I can almost hear the collective grunt of despair! Have I not spent a fair amount of my time on this entry talking about reality with a capital "R"? Have I not, again and again, admonished my friends to believe that what happens to us is dictated by our own choices and not by destiny? Well, yes. Reading horoscopes certainly does not negate that advice nor cancel out that belief. I would like to think, and I guess you could call this belief denial as well, that reading horoscopes allows me to jumpstart my day with a sometimes-nonsensical preview. After all, part of the appeal of horoscopes is the element of wonder. So for those who are born under the sign of Leo like me, here is a forecast for the week ahead: The Nile River is the birthwater of ancient Egyptian civilization and also of the legend of Leo. The drought of the summer would bring an annual event to Egyptian villagers living by the river - powerful, dangerous lions coming to drink from the Nile and feast on whatever living morsels they could find, no doubt! This must have been a feared and awesome occurrence for the Egyptians, and still to this day, the symbol of the lion adorns many a fountain and gate, demanding respect from all who observe. If you have Leos in your life, this is their time of year and they will likely let you know. Now is when Leos become more aware of who they are, who they think they are, and who they want to be. Actually, we all hav some degree of Leo in us. That's why stories like "The Chronicles of Narnia" and "The Lion King are so effective. The theme being that we are royalty, but somehow forgot or didn't know it, and must jorney and trial until we once again assume our royal title, finally understanding it for the first time. Embrace your innner "title" this week, and seee if your world doesn't bow in respect. (The Philippine Star: July 16, 2006)
